This development in Gisborne, was a major milestone for the TW Property team, marking our biggest social housing development delivered to date for social housing provider, Kāinga Ora.
31 residential social housing units were constructed with a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom single-storey duplexes. 27 of these units were built to Full Universal Design standards (FUD), with some units complete with ramps, wider doors and accessible bathrooms. All of these homes were also rated with a v4.1 Homestar rating.
During the construction of the units, more than 70 job opportunities were created for local Gisborne tradespeople, including several apprentice opportunities. With 31 homes being added to the area, the TW Property team had to find a solution to ensure no extra pressure was put on Gisborne’s stormwater network. This involved installing 31,2000-litre attenuation tanks on site to ensure stormwater run-off was captured and slowly released back into the city’s stormwater system.
The development has been named Riria Road, commemorating one of Ngati Oneone, Ngati Konohi, and Ngati Wakarara kuia, Ingrid RIRIA Searancke, who was a staunch advocate for all things good for Māori and in particular, the Kaiti community.
